There's not much you can do with £1. But surviving on this small amount each day is the reality for the 1.4 billion people currently living below the Extreme Poverty Line. The World Bank defines extreme poverty as living on the equivalent of US$1.25 a day. That's roughly the equivalent of £1 in the UK.
Live Below the Line challenges people in the UK to live on £1 a day, for all food and drink, for 5 days.
Over 50% of the world's population are young people. Young people make up 70% of the population in developing countries. The majority of these young people live below the Poverty Line of £1 a day.
They face some of the most serious and persistent problems in the world including HIV/AIDS, no access to education and high unemployment. Poverty is one of the biggest underlying challenges young people face. We want people in the UK to better understand the restrictions this causes.
Restless Development challenges YOU to live on £1 for 5 days.
To better understand and raise awareness of the lack of choice that people in developing countries face every day.
From 26th - 31st March, Restless Development HQ will be Living Below the Line. We will post our recipes (good and bad), experiences, and give you hints and tips for Living Below the Line yourself on our blog.
Sign up and Live Below the Line for Restless Development. 7th – 11th May 2012.
