dance4life is a global campaign uniting young people (13-25) around the world in countries around the world to push back the spread of HIV and AIDS and improve global sexual health. Since 2006, Restless Development has been running dance4life in the UK.
Through media, music and dance, we raise awareness of the global epidemic and support young people to get involved.
“dance4life is something that I enjoy, from the moment I saw the banner - Start Dancing Stop Aids. Four words can have so much meaning, it’s something you can’t express but from inside you feel there is something that you should be doing, something now.”
Ashil, Taking Action Group, Mill Hill
dance4life operates around four main elements: Inspire, Educate, Activate and Celebrate.
1. Inspire: Our high energy and interactive schools workshop tour (October – November) includes personal stories to provide a human face to this difficult national and international issue.
“We had an awesome time when you came to our school! The message really got through! The dancing was great, I never expected everyone to get involved like that!”
Cya, Stratton Upper School
2. Educate: Skills4life workshops educate young people in depth on topics surrounding HIV and AIDS.
3. Activate: Act4life provides a platform for young people to take action on HIV and AIDS through dance, awareness-raising and campaigning.
4. Celebrate: Every two years, young people from countries around the world will come together through a satellite link up to do the dance4life drill in unison. Our event in London will involve guest DJs, performers, celebrities, music, and most importantly a huge dance floor.
“This was one of the best days of my life, seeing all those people in all those countries and knowing that we were part of it was so cool. Now I really want to do something to help to make sure that AIDS is not a problem in the future.”
