A Strong Youth Sector

There are 3 billion young people in the world.

We can't reach them all on our own.

Nor should we. We know there are many organisations out there that share our views on young people. If we work together and co-ordinate our efforts, we can have an exponential impact.

We will search out other talented youth-led and youth-serving organisations.

Our track record and proven results, together with their local knowledge, resources and energy will provide opportunities for many more young people, more efficiently. All while creating an even larger, even stronger youth-led development sector.

We will

  • Provide technical training and ongoing support to 250 youth-led and youth-serving civil society organisations, resulting in both an increase and improvement of their work with and for more than 1,000,000 young people on six continents.
  • Capture and proile 100 detailed case studies and models from our global partners network to promote excellence across the youth-led development sector.

We HAVE

Built the capacity of organisations in more than 30 countries with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation.

Restless Development held an 8-day workshop in London to build the capacity of young, pioneering organisations from across the world. By improving their long-term planning and sustainability these organisations were equipped with the skills to continue empowering young people in their home countries. Supported by the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, which gives grants to young people fighting HIV and AIDS, the workshop hosted participants from India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Eastern Europe.

Building A Strong Youth Sector

Whilst covering key areas including organisational planning and strategy, monitoring and evaluation, resource mobilisation, finance management and media, it was also a great opportunity for the organisations involved to share inspiring stories of change from around the world.

Through our ongoing guidance after the workshop, one Youth Association based in Macedonia was approved by the Open Society Institute for a 9-month Roma Girl Empowerment project. In 2010, participants reported an average 24% increase in skill development in each key area after one year.
